Kantarama Gahigiri is a Rwandan filmmaker, director, and actress with a master\u2019s degree in International Relations and a training in the cinema. She deals with questions of identity and membership, across various genres and borders, connecting Europe and East Africa.
Kantarama wrote and directed Ethereality, a short film on immigration and the sense of belonging during the 5x5x5 Residence at Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (Switzerland 2019). The film was selected at Namur International Film Festival (2021), at the Chicago International Film Festival (2020) at Clermont-Ferrand (2020) and at FESPACO (2021).
Her first film \u2018Tapis Rouge\u2019 was screened and rewarded all over the world, including the TV5Monde Prize for Best Francophone Feature Film and Best Director, followed by screening the film in Switzerland and France (2017).

Kantarama Gahigiri is a Rwandan filmmaker, director, and actress with a master\u2019s degree in International Relations and a training in the cinema. She deals with questions of identity and membership, across various genres and borders, connecting Europe and East Africa.
Kantarama wrote and directed Ethereality, a short film on immigration and the sense of belonging during the 5x5x5 Residence at Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (Switzerland 2019). The film was selected at Namur International Film Festival (2021), at the Chicago International Film Festival (2020) at Clermont-Ferrand (2020) and at FESPACO (2021).
Her first film \u2018Tapis Rouge\u2019 was screened and rewarded all over the world, including the TV5Monde Prize for Best Francophone Feature Film and Best Director, followed by screening the film in Switzerland and France (2017).

Il a travaill\u00e9 comme assistant r\u00e9alisateur dans des films nationaux et internationaux au Caire. En 1989, il s\u2019installe en Angleterre et de 1990 \u00e0 1994, il obtient un dipl\u00f4me de troisi\u00e8me cycle en r\u00e9alisation de films de fiction \u00e0 la National Film and Television School, au Royaume-Uni. Son film El Shooq (Lust) (2011) \u00e9tait num\u00e9ro un au box-office \u00e9gyptien une semaine avant la r\u00e9volution de 2011 et a remport\u00e9 le prix du meilleur film international, de la pyramide d\u2019or et de la meilleure actrice au Festival international du film du Caire 2010. El Shooq (Lust) \u00e9tait l\u2019entr\u00e9e officielle de l\u2019Egypte aux Oscars en 2012. Son film britannique Room to Rent, mettant en vedette Juliette Lewis et Rupert Graves, a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en Angleterre et en France en 2001 et a remport\u00e9 des prix majeurs, dont le meilleur film international au festival du film de Fayle et les prix du public au festival du film de Turin et au festival du film de Cologne.
